This Cabernet Franc was a gold-medal winner at the San Francisco Chronicle wine competition. On the nose, aromas of violets, rose petal and dried herbs waft from the glass with hints of baking spices. This is a well-balanced wine with rich dark cherry and baked plum flavors and hints of black pepper and cinnamon. It's very approachable with a velvety texture and medium tannins.

Yorkville Cellars is located in Mendocino County, 100 miles north of the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge. The tasting room is on Highway 128, a picturesque road that winds past vineyards, sheep ranches and apple and peach orchards before plunging through the Redwood forest to emerge at the Mendocino coastline. In 1988 Deborah and Edward Wallo bought the 110 acre ranch in Yorkville (Pop. 317) and now have 30 acres under vine, all organically farmed.
I recommend you drink this red with some easy-to-prepare comfort food. It's a wine that deserves a simple, good meal like my Grilled Flank Steak with Roasted Peppers in Tomato Sauce. Serve with my Definitive Mashed Potatoes and you have a meal that is soul satisfying, much like the Yorkville Cabernet Franc!
The success of Yorkville Cellars contributed to the establishment of the Yorkville Highlands viticultural area in 1998. Currently the area includes 22 vineyards with 401 acres planted. All Yorkville Cellars wines now carry the Yorkville Highlands AVA designations on the front label.
