This lively white blends the bright and savory personality of Vermentino with the bounding aromatics of Muscat. There’s also a touch of Chardonnay that gives it some weight. On the nose, Asian pear and tropical fruit aromas have a slight floral component of citrus and geranium. You may also pick up notes of beeswax and brioche. On the palate, the wine is lush, yet bracing with flavors of papaya, plantain and Meyer lemon.

Patrick McNeil’s family has a long history in California’s Marin County. His great, great grandfather first arrived in Nicasio in 1862 and quickly took on the life of a dairy farmer, livestock trader, and meat purveyor. Nicasio was a booming social and commercial center of Marin County for several decades, and ‘McNeil & Sons’ was the local turn-of-the century butcher shop that still stands in the Nicasio town square. Patrick makes a high-end Pinot Noir from a unique vineyard site above Nicasio at 1,100 feet, where the grapes are exposed to marine fog, wind and occasional bursts of sun. His Brainchild Vermentino is the first in a series of limited release wines that celebrate the creative process in both winemaking and design. We look forward to meeting the other fruits of his imagination.
This Vermentino is fantastic with a vast array of seafood dishes, from tart to herby to creamy. It’s particularly suited to shellfish but is a good match also for roast pork or chicken.
