This refreshing wine is straw yellow with green flashes. Clean and bright, it is very fragrant and fruity, recalling peach and apricot with hints of juicy fruit. Peach and apricot return on the palate with notes of pineapple and almond shell. Lovers of unoaked Chardonnay will scream for more.

Rías Baixas in northwest Spain’s Atlantic coast is considered the cradle of the Albariño grape. Bodegas Eidosela was formed by a group of friends who shared a love of wine and art. Located on the right bank of the Miño River, the large, modern winery is set in a romantic green landscape. Their Facebook page has an evocative video of the region with aerial views of the river and villages that adorn it set to charming Galician folk music. Worth a look.
Albariño’s unique blend of savory notes and ripe green fruits makes it incredibly flexible at the table. Its medium body allows it to pair with meaty fish or even poultry, while its brisk acidity and minerality are excellent with fresh seafood. The “green” quality that runs subtly through the wine makes it delicious with sautéed or steamed green vegetables or salads with sharp vinaigrettes. When the wine is served with fish, citrus juice or high-acid garnishes like fresh tomatoes will play to the Albariño’s gentle, crisp fruit. I suggest my Angry Shrimp with Citrus-Spinach Salad. I love the spice of the chili powder playing against the clean and crisp citrus flavors.
In Rías Baixas, the word Albariño appears on every bottle. By comparison, most other wines are referred to by their geographic region.
