The Terenzi has rustic tannins but lots of Italian character. The nose enjoys refined aromas of black cherry and raspberry with hints of violet and vanilla. In the mouth, you’ll find pleasing flavors of spiced red plum, Toro blood orange, clove and soft cedar.

The area of Scansano, located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma region, lies in a landscape of beautiful rolling hills. The area is well-known for traditional cattle and sheep ranching but has made wine for centuries. The Maremma now boasts 34 separate wine appellations, the most recent of which is Morellini di Scansano, home to Terenzi. Apart from making exceptional wines, the estate has a spectacular country inn overlooking the Albegna River Valley with a view of Monte Argentario, home to the spectacular port towns of Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole. If you want to enjoy Tuscany without the crowds that are drawn to Sienna and Florence, this is the place to be.
For a superb pairing, create an antipasto platter with artisanal salumi and marinated crudités. The wine’s acidity will cut nicely through roasted and preserved peppers and mushrooms. Main dishes of veal, pork, game or beef will offset the wine’s young tannins. This blend carries enough natural acidity to pair well with tomatoes, so the flavors of slow-cooked ragus, braised meats with tomatoes and classic pasta Bolognese will all shine when paired with this wine.
