The Rôtie has an inviting, dark color and intense dark berry nose with minerals, violets, and rose petals. The mouthfeel is pure, chewy, and focused with layers of black cherry, plum, boysenberry, licorice, cola, tobacco and bittersweet chocolate. You may also notice hints of fennel, wood and smoke. It's sweet and lush on the mid palate with long-lasting minerality in the finish.
Blackberry, plum, smoke, white pepper and anise.
Before moving into the wine industry Sean Boyd worked in Oil & Gas Exploration as a field geologist for roughly 10 years. The work entailed huge jobs that define project management. After long days, the nights ended with a bottle of wine, usually from France's Rhône Valley. He started Rôtie Cellars in Washington State to pay respect to the wines of Rhône region. From the dense Syrah-Viognier Blends of the north, to the sultry GSM's (Genache, Syrah, Mouvedre) of the South, he always felt there was plenty to love and learn. Sean combines old world wine-making techniques with the best Rhône varietals in the area. Rôtie will never be a large winery with a huge production, but rather, a small winery dedicated to creating old world wines from new world grapes. Washington's climate happens to be almost perfect for growing Rhône varietals, namely, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, and others.
The Rôtie Cellars needs something rich, something beefy and preferably with blue cheese, to complement its full flavor profile. I am torn between my Grilled Pesto Marinated Skirt Steak with Blue Cheese Fondue and my Grilled and Sliced Steak Omero. Make sure to have family members or friends around as fondue is meant to be shared with others!
