This medium- to full-bodied Zinfandel has an old vine character of rich fruit. It's a harmonious and balanced wine with blackberry, cinnamon and clove on the nose and flavors of blackberry liquor, brown sugar, caramel and blood orange--a well-crafted wine with smooth tannins and a hint of minerality on the finish.

Founded in 1996, Scott Reinking has created his "virtual" winery within Sonoma County, California, specializing in small lots of wine from organically and biodynamically grown fruit. Lot sizes range from 2 barrels to 10 barrels per effort, which truly reflects micro-lot production. In his winemaking, Scott prefers to employ native yeasts, neutral cooperage, minimal sulfite additions, no finings, and non-filtration as part of the winemaking protocol, as well as harvesting, racking and bottling timed to beneficial periods of the lunar calendar.
My good friend Jan Birnbaum recently opened a restaurant in San Francisco called Epic Roasthouse, and he is one heck of a great chef. Jan's food is rich, robust and full of flavor, just like this wine. Let's try his recipe for Jan Birnbaum's New Orleans-style Baby Back Beer Ribs. Serve with some good old-fashioned traditional style baked beans. You could even spike the beans with a little bourbon, just to stay in the New Orleans state of mind.
