This superb wine has an intense floral aroma and a full body that is fresh on the palate. Known as Ischia Bianco, after the unique island from which it comes, the wine is a blend of four local varietals: 45% Biancolella, 45% Forastera, 5% Uva Rilla and 5% San Leonardo. It's a lovely straw-yellow color with green edges, high in acids but with a delicate fruity taste.

Ischia is a volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea at the northern end of the Gulf of Naples. Though not as well known as the island of Capri, it is as beautiful, if not more so. Ischia is forty minutes by ferry from Naples and welcomes over six million visitors a year. Not surprisingly, refreshing Ischia Bianco wines are extremely popular on hot summer days. The Pietratorcia winery is one of the best known producers of small production quality wines and derives its name from the large green rocks on the island that were fashioned by early settlers and used to crush grapes. From the vineyards and tasting room, visitors enjoy spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea.
Fish and shellfish are a natural pairing for this island wine and my recipe for Baked Clams with Prosciutto Bits and Bread Crumbs will be perfetto! The citrus notes and the rich flavors of the roasted almond shells in the wine will pair nicely with the briny clams and the toasted notes from the prosciutto and bread crumbs.
