This distinctive Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah delivers rich fruit and great structure. On the nose, blackberry, black cherry and black olive aromas have an edge of thyme and menthol. Black fruits return on the palate with notes of vanilla and leather.

Pietricci is located in southern Tuscany’s Maremma region near the charming medieval town of Capalbio. Inside the medieval walls you can “feel” the old atmosphere of the past centuries; walking through narrow streets, little squares and old paths will bring you back to the past. The main castle once belonged to the Aldobrancheschi family and still houses Giacomo Puccini’s piano. The vineyards are in the foothills looking out over the Mediterranean Sea on stony, calcareous clay with perfect sun exposure. Winemaking dates to the Etruscan period, though the Pianese vineyards themselves have a history dating to 1800. It’s a pristine landscape surrounded by places of great historical and archaeological interest.
The accessible fruit and spice of this wine make it wonderfully versatile when it comes to food. You can match this unique red with medium-weight dishes, especially ones that include tomatoes and dried herbs, like sausage pizza or eggplant parmigiana. Or you can easily pair it with heavier meats like steak, pork or lamb.
Capalbio’s biggest attraction is a wonderful masterpiece by the French-born artist Niki de Saint Phalle. Known as the “Tarot Garden,” it displays 22 huge monumental sculptures inspired by the tarots.
