The 2008 Metallico is a pure presentation of Monterey Chardonnay. This eighth vintage of Metallico is bottled with a stylish label that represents the cool, steely fruit and acidity displayed by Chardonnay without the influence of oak. In the glass, the wine is a pale yellow and showcases aromas of lemon chiffon, tropical fruit, rose petal, ripe pear and cantaloupe melon. You might even pick up herbal notes of thyme and clove. On the palate, noticeable flavors of lime, violets and almond make for a very refreshing wine with a pleasing texture.
Lemon, citrus blossom, vanilla, thyme and rosemary.
Coming from a small town in the Central Valley of California, Dan Lee always wanted to study veterinary medicine. It was late in his career at the University of California at Davis when he discovered enology satisfied his interest in both science and agriculture. Immediately enrolling in the graduate enology program at Davis, Dan completed his studies and was hired at Jekel Vineyards in Monterey. After becoming winemaker, he sensed that Monterey County was ideal for the cultivation and production of world-class wines. It was at a meeting of the Monterey County Winegrowers Association that he shared his vision with a banker, Donna, who encouraged him to open his own winery. In addition to becoming his business advisor, that banker would also become Dan's wife. Dan and Donna Lee's dream of buying a property for growing their own grapes and providing a building site for their permanent winery came true in the fall of 1996. The 65-acre property in the northern end of the Santa Lucia Highlands is perfect for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the two cornerstone wines of Morgan Winery.
The Metallico is delicious on its own or with a simple roast chicken. I love pairing fish and white wine, and this Monterey beauty is perfect for my recipe of Prime Rib of Swordfish. When roasting a large filet of swordfish, it can take on a flavor and texture similar to a roast pork loin. Yummy!
The Lees named the ranch the Double L, short for Double Luck, for their identical twin daughters, Annie and Jackie.
