This luscious Chardonnay is fresh and bright, thanks to the cool climate of Carneros, a region that straddles Napa and Sonoma counties. In this full-bodied Chardonnay, apricot and lemon aromas are joined by tangy lemon and peach flavors--lovely acid, structure and balance.

In the 30-odd years since Hungarian born Nicholas Molnar created his 86-acre Poseidon's Vineyard out of grazing land in southern Carneros, it's become clear that the site is capable of yielding Chardonnay of extraordinary purity. And since consulting winemaker Michael Terrien--a veteran of Acacia, one of Carneros's best-known boutique labels--came on board, the wines have gotten better and better. The 2008 bottling is a nervy, bone-dry, layered wine that recalls an earlier era of vibrant California Chardonnays that used just a subtle hint of oak.
The Molnar is substantial enough for pork, but good with meaty fish and poultry, too. Halibut fillets or roasted pork will work well but you can't go wrong with my Whole Roasted Chicken on the Cocorico.
