The Salmariano is a lovely straw yellow color with green highlights. It's crisp and complex with an elegant nose of green apple, lemongrass and lime curd with hints of wild flowers. You might even notice scents of apricot pit and almond shells. On the palate the wine has a wonderful mouth feel with flavors of pear, mandarin and pineapple. There's an interesting mineral saltiness, finishing with a slight bitter aftertaste.

The region of Le Marche lies in east-central Italy on the country's scenic Adriatic coast. The commercial port city of Ancona is the capital of the region and the source of Le Marche's outstanding seafood, from sea urchins and tuna to swordfish, anchovies and sweet shrimp, often enjoyed fresh from the sea as crudo, with a cool glass of Verdicchio. The Marotti Campi family has owned land in this area for 100 years and has slowly built up its estate to about 150 acres of wine grapes, planted mainly to indigenous varieties like Verdicchio and the red grape Lacrima. In 1999, the family constructed a new, modern winery that allows it to produce better wines than ever. The spectacular 19th-century villa dominates the estate and is a popular destination for wine lovers.
Naturally high in acidity, Verdicchio is a good match for fresh seafood, from brodetto, a rustic fish stew, to swordfish carpaccio with olive oil, lemon and mint. To start a little dinner party, pair the wine with my Shrimp and New Potato Spiedini. A fresh squeeze of lemon and a sprinkle of basil at the end of the recipe preparation bring the dish on home.
The estate is a delightful wine country retreat with ten renovated rooms, a large pool and tennis court.
