This wine has a silky and alluring nature that will seduce you with the first sip. The nose is full of inviting red cherry, violets and hints of darker fruits. The wine has a wonderful mouth feel with lush, rich sweet red cherry flavors, and it enjoys a distinct earthy character, a signature of Pinot Noir from the Russian River. It's a dark, rich wine with finesse and balance and a long satisfying finish. Definitely a complex wine with depth and only 335 cases were produced.

Founded in 1978 by three passionate oenophiles, Lost Canyon Winery's focus is on producing small lots of vineyard designated Pinot Noir and Syrah from some of the finest vineyards in the Russian River, Sonoma Coast and Los Carneros appellations. For Lost Canyon, everything starts with the vineyard, and the 2006 Widdoes is the first year Lost Canyon Winery has produced wines from this fabulous property. Located in a very cool section of the famed Dutton Ranch, it's a 23-acre block that was actually planted by Warren Dutton over 20 years ago. Dutton was a pillar of the Northern California viticultural community who worked with winemakers in providing grapes that were virtually custom-grown for individual styles of wine. The Dutton formula is very much in keeping with the Lost Canyon credo: "You can make poor wine out of great grapes, but not great wine out of poor grapes."
Pinot Noir is an elegant wine and pairs well with many complex foods including fish and meat. The rich fruit in the Lost Canyon will bring out the best in my Seared Pork Tenderloin with Cocoa Spice Rub. The chocolate and spice combination might sound a little batty, but trust me--you are going to be using this spice mixture more than once. It soaks in the moisture of the tenderloin and picks up the spice flavors of the wine. Serve with a side of my definitive mashed potatoes.
