Zinfandel's charm is its spicy ripe flavors and aromas of red berries and jammy black fruits. The Laura Zahtila Zinfandel represents all of those qualities and more. Aromatically, the wine has all the spice elements that one looks for in a Zinfandel with a hint of bramble imbued from the aging in American oak barrels. One sniff delivers baked plum, blood orange, black licorice, blackberry and smoke. The palate is loaded with juicy flavors of black currants, blackberry and cinnamon that are bound to the wine's luxurious tannins.

A long-time wine enthusiast, owner and proprietor Laura Zahtila purchased the Calistoga winery estate that would become Zahtila Vineyards from the Traulsen family in 1999. While she left the intense technology world of Silicon Valley behind, Laura's tenacity for learning systems and science is now directed at running her small winery and vineyard estate which is dedicated to limited-production, premium red wines. Since 1999, Laura has managed all winemaking processes from grape sourcing to the logistics of launching and operating a winery.
This wine is rich and delightful on its own, though worthy of a recipe like my Pan Roast Lamb Chops with Fennel Spice. The fennel spice in the recipe really brings all the flavor components together from wine to food and back to wine. Serve alongside my Potatoes Da Delphina and my Green Bean Casserole for a real show stopper evening of wine and food.
