Lynmar is a premium Sonoma winery specializing in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Laguna Ridge brand is made from estate grown fruit but at a more accessible price point. The wine has lovely black and red fruit aromas and notions of spice and smoke. Flavors of strawberry, cherry and black raspberry evolve in the glass and are joined by notes of cola, kirsch, leather and conifer.
Black raspberry, dark cherry, creamy strawberry, spiced currant and black pepper.
Lynn Fritz built a global logistics company of 10,000 employees and sold it to UPS in 2001. But long before that, the family bought Quail Hill Vineyard and founded Lynmar Winery to produce world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay reflecting the character of the Russian River Valley appellation. The first commercial wines were released in 1996 with the 1994 vintages of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Balance, both in the vineyard and winemaking, governs the Lynmar philosophy. Led by winemaker Hugh Chappelle, the winemaking team starts in the vineyard, managing vine-by-vine to optimize even fruit ripening, quality and balance. In the winery, Hugh prefers to let Mother Nature do the work. He handles the wine as little as possible and strives to achieve balanced tannins, fruit qualities and natural acidity. The result is the characteristic Lynmar style: wines with character, full berry flavors and balanced qualities reflecting the unique estate Quail Hill Vineyard.
At this time of the year I love to forage for wild mushrooms, make an inspired recipe (aren't they all) and open a tasty bottle of Pinot Noir as the combo is a marriage made in heaven. Risotto originates from Piedmont and is one of the pillars of Milanese cuisine. My version is slightly different. Try my Roasted Barley and Mushroom Risotto, which is a blending of California ingredients and Italian philosophy. Serve with a nice green salad and a crusty loaf of bread and presto!
Lynn Fritz founded The Fritz Institute, a non-profit organization strengthening the operations of humanitarian relief organizations worldwide by bringing private sector expertise in logistics and technology.
