For many, there's no more wonderful pairing for food than Chianti Classico. Made primarily of the Sangiovese grape with small additions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this ruby red wine is abundant with exotic aromas of leather, boysenberry, roasted pine nut, autumnal forest floor, tobacco spice and violets. The wine's great weight in the mid-palate easily supports the rich notes of blackberry, currant and leather. This Chianti Classico is aged for 12 months in French oak, so the mouth feel is smooth and round. The black fruit finish is long and irresistible.

The small village of Panzano lies halfway between Florence and Siena, in the heart of Tuscany's Chianti Classico region. Fattoria Le Fonti is located here, below the village church and among the rolling hills. The winery's extraordinary 37 acres are dotted with olive groves and more than 18 acres of vineyards. Le Fonti has been in the hands of the Schmitt-Vitali family since 1994 and is a small, family-run boutique estate, producing 2,500 cases a year. Superstar consulting enologist Dr. Stefano Chioccioli provides his expertise, helping the family craft this exceptional wine. The earliest documentation of Chianti is from the 13th century when viticulture flourished in the mountains around Florence.

The Tuscans take the production of their Chianti Classico very seriously. Laws mandate everything regarding vineyard location, age of vines, yields and required aging.
