The Kunin Viognier does justice to the superb Stolpman Vineyard in the Ballard Canyon of the Santa Ynez Valley. The wine enjoys a crisp underlying acidity and reveals a beautiful poached pear, orange blossom and peach-filled style with more minerality than most California Viogniers. Medium to full-bodied with a rich mouthfeel, it has good structure and a persistent finish. Only 425 cases were produced.

Kunin Wines was founded in 1998 with wine production growing annually from 400 cases to a current 5,800 cases. Consistent with the dedicated philosophy of its winemaker Seth Kunin, they remain a boutique producer of high-quality premium wines made with grapes purchased from the finest vineyards of the heralded Central Coast region of California. The varietals include Syrah, Zinfandel, Viognier and blends of Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah. This region is unique in its marine-influenced climate, which leads to a long, cool growing season, allowing maximum time for the grapes to develop complex flavors while retaining sufficient natural acidity. This balance of ripeness and acidity produces wines of exceptional elegance that will age gracefully and make an excellent companion to food.
A mouthwatering white for enjoying on a lazy afternoon on the patio, this wine offers both refreshment and richness, making it an excellent choice as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to medium-bodied pasta and vegetarian dishes and salads. At the same time, the ripeness and soft texture give the palate enough weight to counterbalance the richness of sautéed fish, such as fillets of trout with a bread-crumb crust; luxuriously textured ingredients like cheese, eggs and cream would also pair well. I suggest my Fennel Spiced Prawns with Citrus Salad. The richness of the prawns and the flavors in the fennel spice rub work in wonderful harmony with sweet and tart citrus in the salad. In Italian we say Perfetto!
