For four generations, farming in California has been a way of life for the Hill family. From apples, cherries and prunes in the early half of the century, to Doug Hill’s success in cultivating some of Napa Valley’s most prestigious wine grapes, the family's life in Northern California agriculture is truly “deep rooted.” Doug Hill now has three decades of vineyard experience in Napa Valley with 11 separate vineyards and 250 acres. From Mountain vineyards which produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese for honored wineries like Silver Oak, Stags Leap and Duckhorn, to those across the Valley floor where Doug grows sought-after Sauvignon Blanc, Albariño, Muscat Canelli, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Syrah and Cabernet Franc, the pursuit for perfection is what makes his profession a true passion. The tasting room is located in the heart of Yountville’s restaurant row right near the NapaStyle store and my new Bottega restaurant.

The rounded fruit and gentle structure of the Barrel Blend are beautifully decorated with inviting flavors. Accordingly, the wine will taste best when paired with foods that are classic partners to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. These include grilled and charred meats like beef, lamb and pork, whose proteins will offset the tannins in the Cabernet while playing to the alluring plumpness of the Merlot. For accent ingredients, earthy, pungent and slightly herbaceous flavors will work well.
