The Grove Street puts forth remarkable varietal accuracy and is a solid example from Sonoma County. Fruit harvested from Sonoma's finest cool-climate growing regions lend enticing aromatics of ripe cherry and raspberry framed by baking-spice notes and plenty of acidity. Flavors of lightly baked cherry, Santa Rosa plum and black raspberry lead to a silky mouthfeel and a long, lively finish.

Grove Street has been making award-winning wines from California's North Coast since 1988. The company was purchased by entrepreneur and philanthropist Peter Paul in 1999 and is now part of Vintage Wine Estates which also owns Girard, Sonoma Coast Vineyards and Stonefly. There are 13 appellations in Sonoma County, but it is the cooler maritime-influenced regions that are best suited to growing fine Pinot Noir. The Grove Street is comprised of fruit from a diverse selection of small vineyards in the Russian River Valley, Carneros and the Sonoma Coast, areas characterized by intense fog which allows the grapes to ripen more slowly while retaining flavor, aromatic intensity and elevated acidity levels.
Pinot Noir tends to be an extremely versatile food wine and the Grove Street offering proves this point. It will stand up nicely to poultry and lighter red meats, while not overwhelming many seafood and vegetarian dishes. Almost anything with mushrooms is often a good option so try my recipe for Michael's Best Button Mushrooms as a palate-pleasing hors d'oeuvre. A quick sauté of mixed wild mushrooms to accompany veal paillards or chicken breasts is also an excellent choice.
