This lovely, feminine Dolcetto enjoys beautiful fruit and floral aspects. Rose petal on the nose is joined by red currant, blood orange and cola, and black plum and black cherry flavors have a light leather edge.

Piedmont (Piemonte in Italian), in the northwestern corner of the Italian Peninsula, is arguably Italy's finest wine region. Dolcetto is an important red grape in the region and the Alba zone is considered the most notable of the seven Dolcetto D.O.C. appellations. The Corino family began growing grapes in 1952 but it was not until the mid-1980s that they began producing their own wine. Today, Giuliano and his wife Stefania farm eight hectares of Dolcetto Barbera and Nebbiolo. The winery is located near the town of La Morra in Barolo wine country, which is a loose collective of towns that make wine of the same name. It is a beautiful land of undulating vineyards, robust wine and extraordinary food.
Dolcetto, or “little sweet one,” is great with hors d’oeuvres and simple main courses. It complements hard aged cheeses such as cheddar, Gruyère and Parmigiano-Reggiano; spicy salumi; and traditional Italian antipasti such as roasted peppers and olives. For main courses, roasted poultry of any sort, as well as pastas with meat or mushroom sauces, are perfect matches for this earthy, juicy offering.
