Fieldfare Chardonnay

$23.00

Varietal Birthplace Year
Chardonnay Monterey County 2009
Made in a rich, full-flavored style, the Fieldfare shows red apple, pear, citrus rind and toasty vanilla on the nose. Pear, lemon and apple flavors have an edge of smoky crème brûlée and a hint of minerality.

After serving in the Peace Corps in Ecuador, Ian Brand came to Monterey to surf and then discovered that his undergraduate environmental science degree was useful background for winemaking. He learned winemaking at Bonny Doon, and then became assistant winemaker at Big Basin. In 2007, he partnered with John Allen, owner of Coastview Vineyard, in making Coastview Vineyard and Le P’tit Paysan wines. Ian is also winemaker at De Tierra Vineyard and consults for Pierce Ranch Vineyards in Monterey County. He makes great Chardonnay and Pinot Noir across the AVA spectrum in Monterey County. The Fieldfare brand is his latest adventure and the applause is only just beginning.
Chardonnay’s subtle flavors are easily overwhelmed by spicy and pungent foods, so serve the Fieldfare Chardonnay with mild preparations of shellfish, fish or white meats like chicken or veal. The wine’s plush texture will complement pâté or butter and cream sauces; its acidity will also cut the richness of these foods. Of course you can never go wrong with roast chicken or with my Chicken alla Vendemia.
John Allen was looking for 25 acres to build a week-end retreat when he found a 2600 acre hunting ranch near the small town of Chular in the Gabilan Mountains. He couldn’t resist and it didn’t take long before he decided to plant a vineyard.
