Campania is better known for the popular destinations of Naples, the Amalfi coast and Pompeii than it is for wine. The region is particularly passionate about their ancient varietals, and the vineyards on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius are increasingly planted to Aglianico, Fiano and Greco, reflecting how they may have looked in antiquity. The Cotroneo family bought their farm at the turn of the last century but had not given the wine operations much focus until the last decade. A major restoration of the property was completed in 1998, and the plan to become a leading producer in the region with state-of-the-art winemaking is well under way.
