Scents of grapefruit dominate the nose, accompanied by a distinct minerality. It’s lemony on the palate with hints of grass and crushed rocks. We love Sauvignon Blancs from the Loire Valley, particularly from upand- coming appellations like Touraine.

The Loire Valley is famous for the châteaux in the historic towns along the Loire River. But the valley is also France’s largest wine region and so full of diverse wine zones that it’s easy to get confused. Though not all of its appellations are as famous as Sancerre and Muscadet, there are many great terroirs throughout just waiting to receive recognition. One of those is the Touraine, the area outside of the famous town of Tours. Vincent Ricard, a young man born of many generations of winemakers, works limestone and clay soils outside the medieval town of Saint Aignan sur Cher. His white wines consist mainly of Sauvignon Blanc, which he farms meticulously to create wines with lovely concentrated fruit and intense minerality.
This flavorful Sauvignon Blanc is a great match for seafood, from shellfish with garlic and herbs to smoked fish like salmon, mackerel and sardines. The wine will stand up brilliantly to rich fish stews, such as a savory bouillabaisse or cioppino, and has enough body to pair with pork or rotisserie chicken seasoned with lemon and herbs. Tangy, sharp cheese like a goat cheese crottin or a mild blue cheese would also be delicious.
