This wine is essentially a Côtes-du-Rhône from an area that is east of Avignon on the mighty River Rhône
in the wine zone called “Luberon.” It is a classic blend from France’s southern Rhône Valley, with Syrah
adding structure and heft to the supple Grenache grape. With a dark, ruby color, it’s a stylish wine with
aromas of black plum, black currant and light smoke. There’s a racy, silky feel to the plum, blood orange and
anise flavors, backed by a lightly spicy finish. This rustic French red will go down nicely on a warm late
summer evening.
Black plum, hibiscus tea, white pepper, blood orange.
Jean-François Ranvier and François Dauvergne teamed up to create a unique approach to building a brand
focused on quality from vine to finished wine. Jean-François had worked with over 50 cellars in the Rhône
Valley and together in 2004 the partners approached the best of them with their collaborative idea. Ranvier
would consult with each property on all aspects of vineyard management, proper harvesting techniques, and
winemaking processes. Agreements would be made prior to harvest on the price for the grapes under the
partnership’s care. Because Dauvergne Ranvier would purchase 100% of the yearly production, the
properties knew they could sell all of their grapes for a specific price, and at the same time, the buyers could
count on quality since they were intimately involved in each step. Currently, there are 40 properties that
have partnered with Dauvergne Ranvier.
Côtes du Rhône wines are celebrated for their versatility. With its medium body and elegant integration of
flavors, the wine pairs with white meats such as roasted chicken and pork cutlets, as well as with leaner cuts
of beef like flank or hanger steak. The berry flavors are an excellent match for slightly charred meats off
the grill, while the wine’s juiciness works well with hard cheeses.
This is the perfect wine for holiday parties, to have on hand when guests unexpectedly pop by, and for
weeknight dinners.
