This is what I call a harmonious wine. It's loaded with deep dark red fruit, earthy herbs and spices. On the fruity bouquet, I pick up aromas of peppers, currants and even some licorice root. The lush taste is flavorful and full, with plenty of dark plum and cherry, a hit of tobacco, and roasted cranberry. Smooth with soft tannins, it has excellent length. And did I mention it's also easy on the eye? A moody purple with ruby highlights. Delicious and generous, it's the perfect wine to pour for dinner with friends.
Green pepper, black currant, star anise, vanilla, dark plums, tobacco and cola.
This wine hails from a small family property in the Maremma, in the southwestern corner of Tuscany, a wide-open, crowd-free area spotted with small tiny villages and old castles. There, the Bruni's vineyards run east to west, the soil is rich with clay, and the sea breezes are salty and soft. La Cantina Bruni, founded in 1974 by a family with an abiding passion for wine, is known for excellent wines. Winemaker Marco Bruni captures the unique essence of the Maremma, a zone far lesser known that its illustrious Tuscan neighbors, which include Chianti and Montepulciano. Aged in stainless steel for eight months, this wine then spent an additional seven months in oak barriques.
During this time of year I love to make a roast that fills my house with delicious smells that has everybody saying, "Is dinner ready yet?" My Forever Roast Lamb is a memorable dish on any occasion but especially so during the holidays. Serve it with a side dish of my Fagioli all'Uccelletto. Need something a little simpler for your party pairing? Try my Pizzettas with Olive Tapenade and Pecorino Cheese.
