| Pinot Noir | Anderson Valley | 2006 |
This wine is a blend from three separate vineyards and expresses the signature of the Anderson Valley. A sniff of this beauty evokes thoughts of cherry pie, rich with ripe fruit and a hint of cinnamon. It's a rich full-bodied Pinot with a sophisticated intermingling of spice and fruit. The wine enjoys all the black cherries and late-summer blackberries of a cold-climate Pinot Noir and is dense and intense with a luxurious texture. Doug Stewart's obsession with treating the grapes as gently as possible has produced a well balanced, elegant, silky Pinot with a rich, soft mouth-feel.
Bramble berries, spice, currants, and black cherry.
Breggo sits on 203 acres of heaven in the heart of the Anderson Valley north of Sonoma which Doug Stewart bought in 2000. The grapes for this wine come from the top three local growers, who liked the idea of having a winery with a tasting room on the highway making vineyard designates from the best fruit in the Anderson Valley. Little did they know that Breggo would acquire such acclaim so rapidly and be hailed by important wine critics as an exciting new discovery. After years of preparation, Breggo planted 25,000 of its own vines in 2008, and so a new adventure begins.
Pinot Noir is arguably the most seductive of all of the red wine grapes and makes for a superb match with rich meals of wild game, poultry or wild mushrooms. I suggest the Breggo with my Grilled Chicken with Mushroom Vinaigrette. The rich cherry, blackberry and cinnamon spice notes in the wine will play off the wonderful fresh herbs, spices and mushrooms in the recipe. Serve with a side of mashed potatoes and a green salad for a very memorable meal
Stewert's Ecuadorian wife, who is fully involved in the business, was once a park ranger in the Galapagos Islands and a TV hostess on an Amazon Eco tour show!
